Upcoming Conference and Events

EPAA is thrilled to announce a virtual dialogue on “Teaching and Research of Public Administration in Ethiopia: in the Past, the Present and the Future (s)” August 17, 2023, in the Afternoon. The dialogue is open to all EPAA members and invited people.  There are four speakers and Dr. Dereje Terefe Gemechu is the moderator.  The short bio of the speakers and the moderator is below.  EPAA members and invited people will receive a link to (Zoom or Google Meet).

Dr. Jemal Abagissa is an Associate Professor of Public Management, Addis Ababa University. He has been teaching courses in public administration and development management in Addis Ababa University since 1994. He has been advising many MA and PhD students in their theses and dissertations. He has published many articles related to urban governance and public management in Ethiopia. He has research interest in the areas of urban governance, public service delivery, strategic planning, and urban micro and small enterprises.

Bezabih Gebereyes Beyene holds a MA in Public Policy from Murdoch University – West Australia. He is a Ph. D. student at University of International Business and Economics – China/Beijing and member of the Ethiopian Public Administration Association (EPAA). He has served in different positions, among others; he was a Commissioner of the Federal Civil Service Commission (2018-2021) and a Director of the Ethiopian National Civil Service Reform Program (2005-2010). His main research areas are Civil service reform, Policy implementation, Public administration, Politics-administration dichotomy, and Government structures.

Nigussie Daba Heyi is currently an Assistant professor at Ethiopian Civil Service University, College of Leadership and Governance, School of Policy Studies. He is also a PhD candidate in Federalism and Governance at Addis Ababa University where he also did two master’s degrees: MA in Public Management and Policy, and MA in Regional and Local Development Studies. He was also an academic staff member at Public Service College of Oromia (the current Oromia State University) and served in different positions including, Head of Human Resource Management and Leadership Department, Training Programs’ coordinator, and Head of Research and Consultancy Department. At the   Ethiopian Civil Service University, among others, he has served as Deputy Director of Center for Public Policy Studies. He also worked as a public sector reform consultant in Oromia regional state and Addis Ababa city administration. His main research areas include Public Policy, Public Management and Reform, Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations, and Multi-level Governance.

Kiflie Worku Angaw is a PhD research fellow at the Public Governance Institute, KU Leuven (Belgium), and a lecturer at Department of Public Administration and Development Management, Dilla University. He has been involved in several funded policy and development specific research projects. His main research areas include Public Administration Education, Policy Capacity, Policy advisory, Civil Service and Institutional Capacity, Digital Governance and Public Service. Kiflie is Member of EPAA, and International Association of Public Policy. He has published articles, and book chapters, and participated in international and national conferences

Dr. Dereje Terefe Gemechu is an Associate Professor of Social and Public Policy. He had long career service in the Ethiopian education sector at various capacities. He has served as director of School of Policy Studies in the Ethiopian Service University and contributed to the growth of the study program to its current PhD study level. He has conducted various policy-relevant researches and published articles on policy practice and challenges in Ethiopia, policy mandates and practices in a federal system, co-authored policy-implementation dichotomy narratives in Ethiopia, globalization and the demise of policy sovereignty, and related other themes on reputable international journals. Currently, he is a visiting academic in policy studies at graduate programs in a number of universities
